Default 68 dash lights

there are 2 different bulb sockets on the gauge bezel. one is a plastic twist in. that one works fine .the other is different. kinda lost with that one cant see how the bulb fits in. has a metal prong in the gauge back

the socket withe the metal prong is in the back of the gauge panel. is it supposed to be attached to the plastic part? like the pic?

What you show is the typical lamp socket for cluster illumination. There will be some on the back of the speedo, tach, and center cluster. Do you have the assembly instruction manual (AIM) for your model year? The AIMs show how things plug up to the instruments.

YES...that metal portion is known to possibly come out of the socket due to how it was made. It can be removed from the back of the gauge and put back in the socket and maybe use a dab of epoxy to glue it in place by putting it ont the portion that goes in the socket and THEN you can install the bulb and put it back in the gauge.
