Tom you didn't pay for one!! Well at least the original owner did not. Dealer installed option if I remember correctly. Hard to believe that was a option, but so were shoulder belts at one time. Ike

Theoretically: Harley Davidsons originally had only a left mirror. The saying was--ride in the right lane and keep an eye on the car passing you in the left lane by using the left mirror---it's easier to turn your head and glance to the right to make a lane change on a 4-lane highway, rather than depend on a right side mirror where the car might be in your "blind spot".
Please don't add one. IMHO, detracts from the value of the car.
Or if you do, at least talk to people who have them first. I`ve heard a lot of complaints saying you can`t see anything with them anyway, making them useless for other than looks only.

I don’t think they look good either. The sport mirror option a few years later were a welcome addition.
Funny thing is that I am so in tuned to look out the passengers mirror, even though I know its not there I still look for it every time!! Ike
I did that with my 4 speed when I first bought my Vette after driving a few 5 speeds for years. Every now and again I'll reach for the shifter to put it in 5th even to this day and sometimes go as far as pushing in the clutch.

I have a chrome big head on my '71 and it works great. I can see what I need to see, the blind spot when I'm in the left lane.
The proper way to set up and side view mirror is if you can see the side of your car it's not set up properly. Move it out until you see the car or object next to and behind your rear end. When I setup my mirrors I don't see much of my Vette at all.
