In a 70 mph crash a 4lb extinguisher will try to rip itself off of whatever it's mounted to with up to 280 lb of force depending on angle and rate of deceleration. Whatever it's mounted with - screws, velcro, plastic or metal strap, or to - interior panel, sheet metal, etc., would have to be able to withstand that force. I wouldn't want it mounted behind me or anywhere near my head.
I don't want that extinguisher next to my melon...
I've been hit hard twice in vehicles and stuff becomes projectiles, hell I've had my glasses knocked off a few times.
The wife put the vette into a ditch and some groceries about ruined her.
Mount it in the engine compartment. That way in a crash it will rupture and put the fire out all by itself... There are no definitive perfect locations for it. But in between driver's and passenger's heads is a bad idea. You don't even have to be hit to have heads traveling far enough sideways to hit that big-*** can screwed to the T-top bar. No, 540 wasn't being a jerk or a know-it-all. When it comes to human heads and large hard objects, no input should be considered insulting.

Thank you. I wasn't trying to be a jerk. He has a great car. And I pointed out something that was unsafe. If I posted a picture and someone pointed something out, I would say thank you and take care of the problem.
