My side mirror chrome is corroded... actually bumpy...but my mirror is date coded and I would like to save the mirror.
Any suggestions on how to remove the mirror without damaging it?
I found the suggestion here to soak the mirror head in gasoline. It works by softening the old silicone and does not damage the mirror. You can them use silicone caulk or silicone gasket maker to attach your dated mirror in your new chrome base.
But,when you reattach the mirror to the new body, stage the mirror body on top of the [upside-down] mirror, with the mirror laying on a very flat surface. If you do it the other way, the mirror CAN sag a bit and your view can become a bit distorted. (Ask me how I know....)
