I have a '74 Corvette that shows approximately 12,000 miles on the odometer and the transfer documents and title shows the same mileage. Can you give me some ideas of how I can check the accuracy of the odometer?
Also, other than the EGR, did the '74 350 have any other emission equipment?
...depends if it is an L-48 350 OR L-82 350. Only the Federal Emission L-48 automatic did not have a smog pump, all others did. The PCV valve, charcoal canister and TCS(temperature controlled spark & transmission controlled spark)were also part of the emissions
Check for wear on the brake pedal. If it is worn down, the odometer has likely been around once before. There are probably other ways if you search the web. I have receipts for my car that show it once indicated 98K miles, so the indicated 16K is actually 116K (or more)
You can take it on the highway and compare mile markers to readings. A GPS speedometer app on your phone can check that, too.
Yep. Wear on the carpeting and brake/clutch pedals, plus general wear & tear on interior pieces is a much better indicator of actual miles on the car, rather than the odometer (which can easily be altered). 12K miles is a very lightly used vehicle....and the signs of such should be clear. If not, it's [at least] a 112K mile car.

Base '74 4 speed, brother of Paul's car showing smog pump.
Nationwide All LS4 454, L82 350 and L48 4 speed Corvettes were equipped with AIR (Smog) systems. In addition in CA all had AIR including L48 automatics.
