Help please, Getting ready to install carpet in storage area and when I pre fit the storage main frame the carpet does not let frame set down enough to align mounting hole's. Do I cut around or push down more without breaking.
Snip and taper around the edge of the newly carpeted doors and keep trying it. It makes a big difference if you use an ultra-sharp pair of quality scissors, the steel kind you can get at a drug store for cutting hair.
Make sure there is no padding within about an inch of the opening for the compartment. If you have padding under the area the frame sits on, you will never get it to sit down properly.
I just did this job and it was the usual WTF is going on now? I could not find any difference between my new and original surround, yet the new one wouldn't fit as nicely as the original. Is your compartment frame original or a replacement? I bought just a new surround and re-installed the old hinges with the aluminum rivets. In my case the alignment of the hinges due to tolerances in the rivets was suspect. Probably too high, I wasn't able to compare because I reused the hinges. I put an ice pick in the middle hole of each hinge and pushed down on that. Being steel there was not all that much bending stress on the plastic frame and I was able to get the outer two screws in and then with the ice pick out, the middle one in.
Didn't do anything with carpet. I even lifted the carpet and tried the frame under the carpet and it still didn't fit so my suspicion was the rivets had the hinge a little too high and the bottom of the frame was impacting the car body too soon. If your doors appear to be a little too high at the rear, that is definitely a clue that the hinges are off. Failing that I have no idea.

Good luck
Original frame, I tried the ice pick also and did manage to align one then thought I better ask before I screwed something up. Thanks
I ended up with a long trial fit process. I slowly removed some of the carpet in the areas that was preventing a good frame fit. V2 racing also had a good suggestion that may have helped me install this.

I bought carpet kit from Corvette Central and now plan on making a cardboard template before I do any cutting. Laid the R fender well but have not done any cutting, just fitting it in.
You can shave a bit of the knap off the carpet where it will be under the plastic edging. But, even when that has been done, it's a pain to get it installed properly without cracking/breaking the edging or getting uneven compression.
Get a piece of 3/4" plywood or solid wood that is a bit larger than the whole door. Put the carpet on the lid, set the edging on the carpet and put the piece of wood on top. Now, use two (or more) C-clamps or woodworking clamps to compress it all together evenly until the holes in the edging line up with those in the lid. Insert screws. DONE!

I am going to use 1"x 3" wide piece of wood slightly longer than the frame and apply even pressure to one side at a time., now will also use clamps. Thanks

I wish I had thought of that. I don't think the carpet was my problem.. anyway it is in and hasn't exploded yet so I guess I am OK
If you are trying to run it all the way up on the very top on the back wall, it will be short. That area where the astrovents were was not carpeted.

WOW!, car had no carpet in it when I got it. So that top bulkhead area is just not covered, were they all like that, I know the top edge is finished but had no idea. Thank you.
