Ok trying to save a few $$, bought a basket case and changed bird cage, car came with 78 windshield with bottom 'blacked out' for the 78 dash, if I installl this brand new windshiled
the black bottom parts shows and looks bad, I have not tried yet, but can I removed this shaded (looks like paint) area? paint remover? razor?, want to ask u guys before
I damaged a brand new window. Mike.
The amount of time and effort to remove the coating is something I would not waste my time on. It is REALLY ON THE GLASS due to it is used as an area for the urethane to stick to.
YES...the bottom of the windshield is totally different than what your car calls for and like what 'jhdec' stated. Whether you want to use it or not is up to you.
I know if your car were in my shop you would be getting a new windshield....or at least the correct design. Because if you are worried on how this black area looks....I would put in a new windshield.
After going through all you have done. For me. it would be a 'no brainer' to put a fresh piece of glass in the car. There are other areas where you can save $$$.
thanks for reply, just a note that it is there because the dash pad is higher in a 78, I think they put the paint on to hide the difference between the bird cage and the higher dash, if it was not painted you could see right into the wire harness under the dash pad.
guess I was just trying to be cheap, the window is brand new, never on the road, the old owner thought he could hide the rust holes in the bird cage. also in canada the window is over $300.00, we always pay higher for car stuff. Mike.
Just my opinion, but a classic Corvette is NOT something you`d want to be "Just being cheap" about.
It is a play-toy. A fairly expensive play-toy.
I`d find other areas of my existence to be cheap about......:
and get the RIGHT glass for my toy...…
