To get that bangin' 1-2 shift with a late 60's-early 70's THM-400, you just need brass ba!!s and a fixed foot! Put it in 1st range, launch it, keep foot on the floor and hang on. It will wind up, and just when you think you've let it go too long....BAM!! It will shift to 2nd on its own...forced upshift by the overspeed limiter. And when that type of shift occurs, there is NO slippage of the clutches. It will get a bit squirrley (fishtail); but once under control just upshift to Drive and let it do the shifting.
Whether you want to do that with a 40 year-old tranny, or not, is up to you. But those 400's are nearly bulletproof.

You got a spare oil pan from me the other day. Great minds think alike. My 75 vert is going the same way as soon as I get the salvage brand cleared to R title. 71 nose, tail panel and 454 and 502 waiting for it. Mine is gonna have Gen 6 iron heads showing, so it'll only qualify as poser, not clone.

Question: Do LS-5 and 6 share vin engine code?

72s have a W in the vin for a 454. There was only the LS5 454 available so no other BBC code.
I'm building my LS6 "period correct" not matching numbers. It's a 4-bolt, but it's a marine block. They are 074 heads, but over the counter date 1978. etc. The correct #4803 Holley is dated mid-70.s So it will look the part, and run like it should, with 10.5 CR and I won't have to be afraid to drive it. If I am right I might have 30k in it when done.
I like the idea of your chrome bumper conversion on your 75 vert. Why not? Nothing not to like about a BBC chrome bumpered vert!
