i have a 1975 stingray and I’m having some audio issues. I have a custom autosound usa1-r on my car. I’ve had my speakers properly rewired with new wires and an amplified added. I also have a suppressor connector to my alternator but when I turn my engine on, I get a high pitch squealing coming out of my speakers, it doesn’t do it all the time but when it does, it’s so loud, I have to turn the radio off. The guy who did the work said it could be something within the radio itself that is causing the issue but I can’t figure it out. The radio has been discontinued so I can’t replace it but I am not willing to let it go. Any suggestions on what to do would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Unfortunately I think the radio guy could be right. Only way to confirm it is to replace the radio and see what happens. My brother had the same think in his '82 C10, new radio solved it.
I’m gonna search locally for a radio repair shop. Hopefully they can fix whatever it may be, I’ve spent so much money on this radio. I can’t let it go. Hahaha
I installed one of those “slide-bar” type that looks like an original AM radio till you slide it to reveal the digital face. 1 month out of warranty the stupid slide bar broke. Just a warning if you or anybody else goes that direction. I have had a new USA-230 for 9 months ready to install in a 73 when I get a round-tuit. Please post your solution or resolution. Those bugs can be frustrating.
Does the radio have noise when the engine is not on? Bigger ground will not make a difference. There are various noise filters out there and if it is the radio not hard to fix. Find a repair shop in your area

yes, a rattling and a slow pitch. I’ve got a suppressor attached to the alternator and just ordered one that connect to the flasher cable. The manufacturer said it’s probably a bad ground so to rewire it to the chassy which a few others have said. So I’m gonna take it back to the radio shop that did my wiring to rewire that. Hopefully it works, if not, it’s gotta be something in the radio itself.
Did he wire everything to the battery? I ran my Stereo and AMP directly to the battery.
Then I ran the ignition wire that that turns everything on to a relay and wired the output to the battery.
My noise was a loud crack when I stepped on the brake. Now no more noise.
the amps are through the battery, not sure about the radio, I’ll ask when I take it back in. My noise is a high pitch noise when my rpms go up and engine is on but the whining is low.
I have been told, and read on Crutchfield that it is best to run at least the ground direct to the battery. Also the actual battery ground (located on the frame under the battery compartment) may need some cleaning. I have an alternator whine (increases with RPM) in my audio setup which is using the factory ground wire and will be switching things up this week.

I’ll let them know when I take it back in! Thank you!
So here is the Paul Harvey Rest of the Story for mine. I was able to isolate the source of the noise. The setup I am working on is no radio, Bluetooth module going to a mini amp powering the speakers direct. It turns out, after working with many different combinations my bluetooth module was what was making the noise no matter how it was hooked up (even going directly to the battery + and -). Those are the chances you take with a $20 module I guess. I double checked by plugging my phone directly to the amp with a head phone jack to RCA cable that I had made and it worked just fine. That is a good way of testing if the fault is with the amp or audio source.
You say "it doesn't do it all the time- but only when the engine is running."
And if you turn it off - but then back on -it stops squealing?
If so - it sounds like a bad solder joint- in the radio or amp. What's happening is feedback- sort of like when the guy on stage with the microphone gets too close to the speaker and a squeal results. It could possible be a bad connection in the RCA cables- but it doesn't really sound like it.
When this happens- tap on the amplifier -or radio and see if it stops-if not then un-plug the amp.
Let us know what you find.
If it's not doing all the time then no amount of filters are going to solve this problem.

it happened before the amps, they’re going to reground it tomorrow so let’s hope that’s it. I’ll keep you guys posted on it!

A bad or high resistance ground would give you the alternator whine- that changes with the pitch with respect to RPMs. It's basically unfiltered AC ripple from the alternator. You can disconnect the alternator - and if the noise is still present then it's not a bad ground- and a filter will not stop it. It really sounds like the radio's internals.

Just sayin-

yeah, that’s what I’m afraid of as this stereo isn’t made anymore and I’m wanting to keep the vintage so if it is. I may find some place that could possibly fix it.
