Default Custom work question

Hello all, new to this forum. Hope I'm doing this right. I recently bought a 69 vette that had some custom body work at some point in its life, probably in the 70s. Fender flares, shaved the door handles, etc, but the most unusual part is the back end. They removed one of the tail lights on each side. Just wondering if anyone else has ever seen one like this? Photo attached. Thanks!

Welcome, and I think this thread is better suited in the C3 General section, so I am moving it there. Good luck getting some helpful responses.

Very cool car and have not seen those lights before. Are you going to keep it like that or bring it back to stock.

Forgive this ignorant question please. So when they shave the door handles, are they still there but recessed? Or how do you gain entry if they are clear gone?

I haven't decided.. I like most of what they customized, but not sure I like the back end.

They completely removed the door handles. There is a key fob system to open the doors. I haven't decided whether or not I like depending on that to work though...

Cool car,
I too have a 69 im modding,
I have seen a few with just two tail lights i never much liked it because it made me feel like something was missing,
I feel gm should have ran a low wide tail light on c3s to accentuate its low wideness, i never liked the round lights even 4.

I do love your trans am style rear spoiler and every c3 and my modded 66 had electric door poppers,
Before remote fobs little switches did it and getting in drivers side as someone starts to get in pass side and no handle and like magic you pop open their door, priceless,

However on a c3 no really reason to remove and fill the handles on my 69 im just adding the poppers

Actually, some of the Motion/ Maco conversion customs used one tail light on each side. They also used that integral custom rear spoiler.

Look at some of the Motion Performance or Maco by Silve ads and you will see the connection.

Here’s a Maco with the single light treatment. They often used that molded in custom spoiler, flares, etc.

Note: I’m not saying your car is a Maco or a Motion car, it’s not. But someone used those custom options also with some others they liked.

Thanks, I do like the spoiler also, just can't quite come to grips with the way the rest of the rear end looks. lol. Good luck with yours!

Thanks for the info! I had done some searching but couldn't find any with just the single lights. Will have to research those a little more. Can't say I'm a huge fan of the single tail lights. lol

To the O/P nice custom, i agree the single trail light is somewhat odd and needs something.

I don’t see a provision for backup lights? Are there any in the lower pan or license plate bezel?

I love the flares, but a single tail light looks odd to me. Maybe something more.....

Nicely done custom job but I'd put two more tail lights on it. It just look incomplete the way it is. And throw the C-O-R-V-E-T-T-E letters on there too.

motion and silva and the maco stuff.

1974 ecklers catalog

It gets confusing, motion and silva teamed up motion had centerfold ads when we all were younger in all the car rags so we recall them as the name.

Silva had a full plate and made far more mako kits and turn keys than motion but wasnt as "in your face"

Silva pushed the 2 tail lights, motion liked firebird lights but fire bird tail lights were a popular c3 mod so motion made their own tail light panel seen above that they would mod car to car, a friend picked up a basketcase maco, the tail lights are a varation of the motion panel above.

Motion did things like mix matched parts, look at their manta ray or moray cars,

Things some believe are only motion like the trans am spoiler and slant rear glass were sold at other aftermarket vette parts houses see 74 ecklers catalog in above link, each modded their part a little to be unique to them.

I look at your tail lights and then add in the way the rear flares jut out and the sharp cornor on the front flare, i would be curious your headlights but at this time i see silva here.
