I’m contemplating changing my interior from dark brown to black and while the cost to replace with new is not worth the change to me I had thought maybe some of you have used dye on interior pieces. If so what did you use and did it last?
I dyed a black leather-wrapped steering wheel to match my blue interior. Sweaty palms all over that thing for years without any cracking, peeling, chipping. Seats will do just as well,
IF you clean the surfaces WELL (rid of all dirt/grime...but particularly, must be rid of all "protectant" products) and use good quality vinyl dye. AFAIC, the spray can dyes are poor substitutes for liquid dye sprayed on the parts. Even SEM dye in spray cans does not look like original vinyl surfaces (too flat). SEM sprays wear well, though.
Prepping the surfaces is of the utmost importance for a good re-coloring job.
