Texas resident here. That trash law would never fly here. I'm pretty sure there would be instant rebellion and war had our state done this garbage to us so silently.

Makes me paranoid to even take mine out, with property seizure laws they can do anything they want. Good luck fighting that giant, know from experience its a waste of time.
Last car I had impounded (fresh frame off 70 Z/28) there wasnt much left of it. Once they were done joyriding it and breaking the engine and rearend they started stripping parts off it. Nothing you can do.
Couple members found this out the hard way recently.
Organize to vote the bastards out of office. Surely there must be a lot of residents who feel this is a bunch of crap!

The largest impound yard out here is a major political contributor
David vs Goliath

Stopped and talked to some lapd at one of those roadside checks, in short they arent reallly after theolder guys/old cars unless youre acting the fool (although they could)
Mainly looking for ricers with missing smog, stolen parts, late model stuff thats not legit, the rolling coal guys.

^^^This^^^ And every clown around here has a coffee can exhaust on a POS ricer. Just kids with old Civics and stuff with a straight exhaust. It gets old real fast.

We need more "half deaf" cops.

If you are into this subject of open header laws etc. seek out Steve Lehtos Law on excessive exhaust on YouTube. He is an attorney in Michigan and has a very interesting case about the Woodward Dream Cruise area trying to set their own lower noise decibel standards. It was shot down by the state.
Supposedly, each state has their own set of standards for decibel exhaust noise, which over-rides any city, village or township wanna-be laws.

Yeah, like already mentioned i too see this as just giving LEOs more tools to crack down on the import late model tweakers and crotch rocket jockeys mant if which like to be loud and seen while they are driving all crazy endangering others.

I doubt leo has much interest in some old codger cruising his shoebox with glass packs.

AB1824 allows the issuing officer to decide if you get a correction notice or a notice to appear.
Nothing else in the California Vehicle Code has changed regarding modifying exhaust and AB1824 does not add any additional restrictions on modifying exhaust that has not been in place for years.

I cannot wait for this law to come to NC. Here it is pick-up trucks land and nobody has a stock exhaust. It is insane.

My neighbor has a convertible C7 Corvette. When he starts in the morning or the middle of the night, the whole neighborhood shakes.
The guy is young and already deaf.

The worst are the young Mexican crowd with their low rider Honda Civic and fart cans! So much noise for so little results.....

I simply wish the cops would be after these kind of people, but no, they prefer the speed and the comfort of their radar.

Sounds like the law is one more way to let the cops look for drunks and people wasted on drugs which is not a bad thing. I agree with above does this mean all the straight pipe Harleys will have to get new exhausts?

Modified motorcycle exhaust has been illegal in California for years.
California MC dealerships are not allowed to sell it or install a customers modified exhaust on a MC.
When I bought my Ducati a few years ago, I had to buy the racing exhaust out of state and send the computer to a guy to get it reprogrammed for the engine and exhaust mods I did to the bike.

Hey, how about four baseball cards clothes-pinned on a single speed bike on a Sunday morning? Ought to be a law.

The value of those cards we destroyed every week back then would have bought us a C3 today.

Well, Beto appealed to the young hip “cool kids” with his casual demeanor and youthful enthusiasm. Im pretty sure many of those kids like load pipes too. 30 years behind at best. Hopefully...
