Can someone confirm with me that 5.25 is the correct size to install in the kick panel of a 68 coupe? I'm slowly piecing together an audio system and I would prefer to have the new speakers fit behind the kick panel without having to cut it. Is 5.25 the biggest I can go? Also what is the maximum speaker depth I can go with?

I have shallow 6-1/2" speakers behind the kick panel. No cutting of the opening required. But, I may have had to notch the speaker frame just a bit for a flush fit. Doesn't affect the sound whatsoever. So, a 5-1/4" should mount easier if the speaker depth is not to long. A few pics of my system install.

Very nice, I'd like to do something similar. On the speakers you bought, do you know the mounting depth or the speaker model so I could look it up?
Is it possible to run the front 2 speakers of the head unit and then have a 4 channel amp to run the rear 2 speakers and bridge 2 of the channels to run a sub?

My 4 channel amp is has the two front speakers on separate left and right channels and the other two channels are bridged for the sw. I think you could run front and rear speakers together on the same left and right channels and the other two bridged for sw. Or maybe a 6 channel amp? Two amps? Lol, lots of possibilities. But I will say this. I considered two rear speakers but didn't do it because the vette cockpit is so small I didn't think it would enhance the sound. I'm happy with what I have even though the sidepipes drown out everything, lol. The only thing I would do different is use front composite speakers with the tweeters in the dash. My kick panel speakers are Infinity's, model CS6032 ???? They are no longer available. I have two pairs of Focals, 6-1/2" and 5-1/4" to replace the Infinty's at some point down the road if I ever get the desire to do the swap.
my local car audio shop is having a big sale on hertz car audio stuff. I'm looking at the following setup:
Hertz HCP1DK mono amp
Hertz HCP4D 4 channel amp
Hertz SX250D 10" sub
Hertz ECX1655 6.5" speaker
Hertz MPX6903 6x9 speaker
its well over 2K worth of equipment for about 1K right now.

Are you saying here, Right front/rear on, say, 1 (right) channel, and Left front/rear on, say, 1 (left) channel? Thanks
I think I might just eliminate the sub and sub amp all together. I saw a box that fits two 6.5" speakers and two 6x9 speakers. I think that should be enough if I get a decent set of speakers and a beefy 4 channel amp to power them.
