Default rally wheels

I bought a 76 about a month ago. It has early say 68 rally wheels. How do I remove the center cap without damaging it? Thanks in advance, Craig

I could never pull them off with my fingers. I take a flat blade screwdriver and wrap a rag around it I just pry and pop them off. 68 wheels are 15x7 and 69-82 are 15x8

Just curious... what makes you think they are early rally wheels? Rally wheels were standard on a 76, the aluminum were a $300 option.

There are 3 "tabs" which pop onto the wheel and which hold it. My method is to use the 4 fingers (no thumbs!) of each hand to grab onto the outer rim of the center cap and pull it away from the wheel. After pulling one area of the center cap about 1/8" from the wheel, it will pop off the wheel. To put it back on, make sure that 2 of the 3 'tabs' are engaged with the wheel and use your palm to pop the 3rd tab into place. Don't use any hard metal tools to remove or install the cap. If you need to pry it off, use a wide plastic tool to spread the force on the cap. To install, use a rubber mallet and use as LITTLE force as possible to get it to engage.
