Hello. I was wondering about the key warning buzzer on my 69. At present it is not working and I wondered how much work is involved in trouble shooting the problem. Is the actual switch hard to reach? I'm not able to look at my car since it is still in hibernation waiting for actual spring weather. Thanks for all help.
I just replaced all the wiring in my 75. To my knowledge, the buzzer locations are identical throughout the C3 era (Someone will correct me if I'm wrong) but the ignition buzzer itself is located behind the drivers dash with the speedo and tach contained in it. Depending on how the cars wiring is routed will determine how difficult it is to change, that would be where I would start. If you can get a test lead up there to see if the receptacle is getting power that should tell you whether or not your buzzer is working or if you have an electrical gremlin somewhere else in the car.
I think the key buzzer is in the horn relay mounted on the left fender shirt we used to just unplug the wire to stop it from buzzing check to see if there is a wire unplugged from it
69- the buzzer is indeed mounted internally to the horn relay, The actual switch is in the steering column under the lock cylinder. You can track down which wire it is on the wiring diagram and ground it at the harmonica connector just below the dash on the column. If the buzzer works, you found your trouble.
The key switch is located inside the ignition switch; but the buzzer is part of the horn relay. You will need to determine which component (or possibly wiring) is the 'root' cause of it not working, then take corrective action.
