I purchased this 1981 corvette about 2 months ago, milage says 27,000 the previous owner did not know if it was 127,000 or 27,000. so got ahold of the next previous owner he said it had 24 or 255 when he purchased it he purchased for his daughter than got worried she would kill her self so he sold it,put a lot of work in it untill it got so hot here in florida that i figure i would put off any work untill it cools down this fall. looking at it it looks like it has the original plugs and distributor, with that being said I would like to install a red HEI system and red wires or yellow an you i.d. this distributor for me its a delco remy with no model numbers on it
Unless your new '81 is running poorly; new cap rotor & wires won't make it run better. Your best option is to email CF member Lars and request his HEI tuning papers; specify yours is an 81 & your transmission .
Have you noticed how those original wires seems to fit just right? Chances are, if you haven't noticed the good fit, you will when you install new wires. Chances are, new won't fit as well as what you have now.
And, an out-of-position wire that's brightly colored stands out more than gray. You can get new wires to fit as well as OE; but only if you carefully cut, trim, terminate & position them yourself.
jackson thanks for the reply, altho this car looks great it does have electrical issues, doors, mirrors, ect all minor it gives me some thin to keep me busy, except in this florida heat. will try to locate lars
