Default Gauge lights

Had stereo system installed in my 1971 Stingray a few weeks ago and not I keep blowing fuses for my gauge lights, I changed all my bulb housings and now the fuse blows after about 40 minutes of driving, this time I noticed the tail light fuse was blown as well. Owner of the stereo shop will no longer take my calls. Last thing he said was it’s an old car. He’s not responsible, great. Can anyone help with this. Thanking you in advance,

He IS responsible. But you should have gone to someone more reputable. The shop has screwed up some of the wiring while installing the stereo (does it even work?).

You can call the Better Business Bureau in your city to report the problem. That's about all you can do unless you want to file a legal suit in Small Claims Court.

If all portions of the new stereo system work properly when your gauge lights are NOT working, there is a short somewhere in the power lines for the gauge lights....probably created during the stereo installation work. But, it would be difficult to prove.

unfortunately I live in a small town and there only two shops near me. He was recommended from three different people. I guess I will find a shop that’s comfortable fixing it. And back charge the stereo shop or take him to court for the cost to make it right.

You're going to have to climb under there and see where he added the wires and took power for the stereo. I would look at grounds, becasuse there isnt anything to ground to under there and if he spliced into a random black wire he may have not spliced into a ground wire. Not all black wires are ground wires. THe easiest way, if you havent been under ther before is to take off the left side dash pad. then you can see the side of the stereo and gauges. then if necessary you can take the center console partially out and tilt if towards your shifter and lay it on a towel which is probably what is going to have to happen. good luck

The ounger generation is used to unplugging one wire set, getting an adapter and plugging in a new wire set. Actual work, common sense and intelligence have abandoned this country with most of this generations kids. Even the engine "tuners" have no idea what they are doing if they cant attach a computer to your engine. And never go to kids to get your car aligned at some tire shop. Never heard a good thing about an old car and those people

I think if it takes a while for fuse to blow it is because circuit is overloaded not shorted. Fuse can only handle current rated for and if stereo draws more it is overloaded.
I would look where the 12 volt and switched 12 volt are connected and run them to battery and then switched to another source like old radio lead

as usual, the stereo shop employed the cheapest labor apprentice to do the install. the reason why he does not want to even attempt the repair is that the shop does not have the skillset to track something like this down.
you can fight and fight with them and all they will ( and can) do is try to patch it up..

or do what I do.. figure it out myself.. no one works on my car but me..
