They definitely removed the entire date code...but why?
When you say it like that I just think of the curse of oak island.
"Side grills with the entire date code removed? From a car similar to my own personal money pit?? But why?? To hide the true age of the grills? To confuse unsuspecting buyers that there is a difference in 70 vs 71-72 grills? To eliminate proof that these grills did not come from the factory on a particular car that was being sold as a no hit, unrestored car?
According to legend more parts must be inspected before the truth is known"

Thanks guys. I'm going to pick up a set of correct side lovers and sell the ones on there. Easy enough to change and not cost prohibitive or difficult to find so I'm going to put it back to period correct to match the rest of the car.
NORM one of yours was cast in May of 1970 and the other was cast in October of 1970... when was your car built?
That would have been my guess. Just counting dots.[/QUOTE]
My car is an April 71 build......but.....I have found evidence of some repairs many years and about 3 coats of paint ago so I would think the 70 side vent was a replacement.
