Easy one here. Looks like this is a common problem. '69 350 no A/C.
Existing belt is a Dayco 15355 which is supposed to be 35.5". Too short - no adjustment before pump body hits bracket. Only way to remove the belt is to remove the bracket.
Anybody have a handy part # for one that is only maybe 1.5 to 2" longer?
Thanks

Best way I know to get a slightly longer belt is to take the one you have to a parts store, have them take the measurement with their tool and get the one the next size larger.
1.5" is a lot longer in a v-belt.

The 'right' size is one which will barely assemble and allow a bit of clearance when properly tightened. A new belt will stretch at least an inch over the first month of use. If you start with a belt with plenty of clearance, it will use up all the available adjustment space once it stretches. So, use the smallest belt that will properly assemble.

If the Dayco 15355 is short and you want one 1" longer it's just a 15365, 1-1/2 longer would be 15370, etc.
None of my brackets are stock anymore so I just have one long belt that's been cut, I loop it around the pulleys, pull it tight and mark the overlap, measure the marks and usually get one about 1/2" ~ 1" (depending on the length) shorter since I know I couldn't pull the cut belt tight enough compared to the real belt. Tends to work out

The pwr steering belt I used was a Gates XL 7365. That one is long enough to allow the pump to be moved outwards enough to access the pump cap without pulling the alternator bracket.
This was on a 75 I used to own, but should be the same.

Agreed but the parts stores in my area are a real coin toss anymore.Originally Posted by OldCarBum
