This is not meant to be funny, but the glove compartment box on my"81 gets cold enough to freeze my sunglasses kept in there. Have others experienced the same thing, or do I have a hose loose somewhere?
Check the duct that runs in the footwell. It may be very distorted at the rectangular connection near the center console. Irregardless of fit I can nearly guarantee that the original foam seals are toast. Also feel for air coming from the defroster outlets--if you feel it there's a problem with the linkage and/oror diverter in the plenum box.
There is about a 1" gap in the connection from the plenum to the defroster duct for at least the '79+ years. Some say it's incredibly sloppy engineering but I think it's intentional to allow hot air to escape and rise under the dash to help clear that huge windshield washer well of snow/ice in winter. Refrigerated air on the other hand will tend to fall could result in chilling the glove box. If this were the day I'd say, "Be happy and put your beer in there."
I wish all auto manufacturers would cool the glove box, have thought of this many times for years. My Dad had a station wagon in the 60s that did that, it was great for trips.
