A harmless and fun conversation for at least one person. We are the ambassadors of these cars. Not everyone has the depth and breadth of knowledge about C3s as those of us on the Forum.
You didn't meet Bubba, but you may have met the person who would hire Bubba to work on their car, rather than do it themselves.
Maybe Im getting old and soft but I just couldn’t find anything the guy said that was so horrifying.
These cars attract attention and shockingly, a lot of those people don’t know as much as we do.
Maybe driving a car that less people find interesting would be easier.
Dont take your car to a show; you will have an awful time.

I guess it is like knowing nothing about football, or working out, or guns or working on engines and just spouting off like you do know something is ok right? There is nothing more annoying to me in the world, if you do not know.....listen close, if you can't do that then be quiet.
This guy may have been a bit uninformed, but I have talked to people who knew far less about Corvettes than what he sounded like. I am not an expert myself and I probably make people cringe at some of my questions I ask, but that is one way I learn. There are also some things about Corvettes that I am very knowledgeable about and I enjoy sharing those things. I also enjoy engaging people who are more informed than I. If this guy owns an 81, he is a member of the brotherhood. From the sound of the conversation, he was only trying to be friendly. Down here in Texas that is considered a good thing.
I guess we all have our own level of tolerance. I hope he does not read this forum.
Pretty much agree..
i just got my first c3 and no clue about other series...and i am pretty literate in the automotive area. I would if it bothered me correct his assumptions to learn.
...I was told the other day at a cruise-in that "Stingray" in '74 was an "option". I said "What if you didn't get the Stingray option?" and they said you just got a Corvette. Hmmmm..........................alrighty then....................
Almost never are 2 people at the same knowledge level in any conversation. That's how we learn. Hopefully you helped this guy learn a little more. I pride myself on being a pretty well versed car guy. Autocrossed and drag raced since high school. Roadracer for 20 years, Have built/owned German, Japanese and American stuff. 4, 6 and 8 cyl, Rotary, turbo, EFI ..triple webers. Been there, Done that. Almost always turn my own wrenches, run my own DA sanders, and spray my own paint. I was stopped last Sunday by an unassuming gentleman in a non-descript Ford SUV. He commented about 1969 being his favorite year of Corvette. I was amazed that he got it right. We talked a little. It turns out that He is a retired Engineer from Chevrolet. Worked with Zora. Heavily involved now in restoration of some very significant historic race cars.
Sometimes we are the teacher....Sometimes we are the student. Both roles are good. Enjoy them
I had a 96 SHO... cool car till the cam let loose... anyhoo
If you had a cam issue on a Taurus SHO it would have had some help (mods or worse). Not that that's a bad thing. I was a Ford Zone Mgr. in those days and I never had a single SHO warranty defect claim. They were built for spirited driving and had an RPM rev-limiter past redline. Great cars.

Where are you located in central Florida? I want to meet up with you. I will definitely be the student.

My dad goes to a looottt of car shows with his Ford. He always takes time to let little kid sit in it and beep the horn, but he has very little patience for teenagers. Last fall a kid, 17 or 18 with a tuner car was bothering Dad and Dad gave him a bit of a brush-off. The kid said "Hey man, I'm just trying to learn, who else am I supposed to ask?" Dad has been a lot more patient this past summer!
I know a guy who has a small British sports car that by itself is cool but just isn't attracting the attention he craves. He's a d**k.
Really really - one day he put on a chicken suit and on another stuffed a large potted plant into his car just to cruise around and get attention.
My '69 is like my Harley. Damned thing doesn't even have to run. I could push it into a parking lot somewhere and within ten seconds someone will be by to talk about it. Doesn't matter to me if they have the details right or not.
You guy's think you get Bubba's with a Corvette, you should try a Corvair. All you hear is Ralph Nader, those cars were band from the hi way, aren't you scared to drive it as there un-safe to drive , have you ever rolled it over ? what? bla bla bla. . I was looking at a new SHO when they came out, the salesman told me that while driving it you won't listen to the radio, just the engine. OK, LOL

I was talking to guy last night with a later model Corvair, I think 1965 maybe, He said he modded the front suspension and left the factory independant corvette style rear alone ( the ones after the recall) its the best handling car he owns. I need a ride in one of those.

I almost didn't buy our '77 because they dropped the Stingray option that year.
