mines mounted horizintally on top of the lip between the seats on an Allstar quick release mount. I wired the quick release to the base so I can remove the pin and just let it swing. If I have to do any work behing there I can just remove it easily and do what I have to then put it back without snapping my finger in the heavy metal clamp style mounts
Some of us would like to try and be proactive in trying to save our cars in the unlikely event that a fire starts. We would like to try and prevent this from happening:
Why even post a comment like that on a post about someone asking for examples of mounting a fire extinguisher. If you don't like an extinguisher in your car don't install one, but your comment adds nothing to the original poster's thread.
Because I had a question, that’s why. And the question was answered thank you

RadioTexas....see my note about a quick disconnect switch...you probably wouldn't have needed the F.E. if you could've cut the power IMMEDIATELY.
(that'll buff out! LOL)
Unkahal
Ps I've got a special shelf in the garage for Completely Failed Disasters! That's a keeper!
I'm a believer! I have a Scirocco Mk1 (1980)....I bought it from a kid in Tucson. Drove it 2 hours back home. Parked it in the driveway and threw a spare car cover over it.
2 hours later my buddy Howie comes by for some adult beverages....were sitting in the garage with the door open, my back is to the car.
"Hal whats that ! , The car just went POOF"!...... I spin around just in time to see smoke coming out from under the car cover.
5 minutes of panic and 3 fire extinguishers later it's out. AGAIN! SEE MY NOTES ABOUT QUICK DISCONNECTS AND RELIEVING TANK PRESSURE!
The stupid kid installed an amplifier... single '0' cable straight from the battery positive to the amp under the dash through a ragged hole in the (metal) firewall....THEN to cap it all off, wrapped the excess wire around the 70 psi fuel injection lines.... {they maintain that pressure for a long time, there's a check-valve}
It shorted on the firewall...then sliced through the F.I lines and liberated the built up fuel pressure. POOF!
The car is now called FLAMBE'
ps you're correct....hours and hours of getting that powder out of the engine compt!
Came across Element fire extinguishers the other day. Much smaller than typical fire extinguishers which should make them easier to mount in our cars. Claims to be longer lasting as well. Intriguing.

I was looking at hard mount systems a couple of years back. I want to go back to it. I would use a refillable water based foam like this one, but theres halon systems too.
I just checked out the Element Fire site, and thinking of picking one of them up. Very compact and reasonably priced vs the halon type FE's. If their story is true, also sounds like they are as good as or even better in many regards. Has anyone bought/used one?

A word of advice, Kidde had a recall of over 34 million extinguishers. Check what brand you have. If you have Kidde go to there web site and get a replacement. Amerex makes the best unit I know of. They also have them in chrome.
What have some of you done to mount an extinguisher?
On my C-4 I found a mount that bolts to the front of the passenger seat, but I have not found a similar one for the C-3
I could bolt it I suppose to the bulkhead between the seats, but I am 6" 1" and my elbow rests back there.
Any thought?
as always, Thank you
Have mine mounted between the seats secured by the rear window trim. Does not restrict accessibility into rear compartment or get in the way of the elbows. I’m over 6’3” so I can relate
So a few of you expressed doubt that a fire extinguisher is necessary, even for an outdoor event.
Not only is it a good safety idea, but it can save your car, or the car next to you.
Please see the attached picture of an ad for a car show that took place in my area, just 1 weekend ago, and note the requirement.
This is very common here in the Northeast.
Not the correct way to park a 9,000 gallon tanker
worst "vehicle" fire I had, LIE between exit 50 and 49, note, the truck is facing westbound, in the eastbound lanes,
he climbed the divider, rolled over it, and the cab caught fire. I am backing up the nozzle man

. I agree with the FM who stated that a regular dry chem extinguisher can do a lot of damage. This one won't. I'm familiar with halon - used to be all I purchased until they became 'regulated' and much more expensive.
