What have some of you done to mount an extinguisher?
On my C-4 I found a mount that bolts to the front of the passenger seat, but I have not found a similar one for the C-3
I could bolt it I suppose to the bulkhead between the seats, but I am 6" 1" and my elbow rests back there.
I just realized that I haven't taken an updated picture of my new interior on the passenger's side with the new fire extinguisher. Here is how my dad had the extinguisher mounted and I did the same thing after updating the car. The mount came with the new extinguisher and I used self tapping screws to attach it directly to the fiberglass side on the tunnel.
I bought a small Kidde ABC fire extinguisher, made a sleeve out of mylar bubble-wrap (reflectix) and stowed it in the jack compartment. Then I timed myself on how long to deploy= 15 secs.
NO BOLTING, no 20G's mortar shell in the back of the head! 20G's= 30 mph impact.
Sorry, but why on earth would you mount an ugly extinguisher in the cabin anywhere unless it is a track care.
Some of us would like to try and be proactive in trying to save our cars in the unlikely event that a fire starts. We would like to try and prevent this from happening:
Why even post a comment like that on a post about someone asking for examples of mounting a fire extinguisher. If you don't like an extinguisher in your car don't install one, but your comment adds nothing to the original poster's thread.
Many car show rules require an extinguisher to be "mounted and readily" available
In the jack compartment is not what I would consider available, even if you timed yourself to 15 seconds.
try it on a real fire, you'll be amazed what it actually will be
some of the dumbest stuff I have ever seen involves house fires and home extinguishers.
I have literally had people tell me the "extinguisher doesnt work" of course it does not if you don't pull the pin. I have had this told to me by homeowners at least 5 or 6 times in 40 years in the fire service.
My Engineering Thesis was Fire Fighting equipment...I figure that I can use a fire extinguisher!
All my vehicles have one or two in them....which get checked every 3 months or so.
You don't get a fire like the one pictured INSTANTLY....takes a few moments.....you get pictures like that when NO EXTINGUISHER WAS PRESENT....as well as lack of a battery cut-off switch.
I've been in the Corvette hobby for 44 years...dozens and dozens of car shows....NEVER ONCE did they ask for a fire extinguisher....are you showing your car INDOORS????? Though the NCRS gives you 'bonus points' for having one.
Fire extinguisher TRAINING is important for those unfamiliar...In my Aerospace training you'd be amazed (you wouldn't be! PeyC2 lol) at how many people spray it around like it's an air freshener instead of aiming at the base of the fire.
Another fire tip...Those with SEALED gas caps, un- twist the cap FAST...which lets the pressure off and stops the fuel feed....when the fire is on the other end of the car.
That is exactly what I am looking for!
did you use the universal mount, and did it attach to holes already in the frame?
Simon of Bracketeer was very helpful as, out of the box, the kit wouldn't work. He provided me with some 'extensions' that solved the problem.
They are attached between rail and seat with the seat mounting bolts. My seats are not stock, so I'm uncertain about other installations. Check them out on his website.
On my last major road trip I arrived after the damage was done in three separate car fires...I always keep the extinguishers with-in arm's reach in my vehicles and several in my home.

I've used the "strategy" of Dirty Dalton, but I installed it in front of the driver's seat. I don't want to fight for the fire extinguisher by reaching over the console of having a passenger lift legs to get at it. I want NO impediment to grabbing that thing when I need it . I just put a screw thru the floorboard on the slope in front of the driver's seat. Fits well...doesn't get in my way...obvious presence to show judges when they look for it.....AND it is VERY accessible.
Mounted mine to the seat rather than the slider bolts, that way it moves with the seat and stays tucked in close even when the seat is back all the way (not that it matters)
I keep my extinguisher on the passenger seat. And here's why:
Wiper motor shorted out. When the engine quit, I got safely to a parking lot. Grabbed the extinguisher off the seat, popped the hood and started fogging. Got the fire out quickly, but, and it's a huge butt. Your "regular" fire extinguisher will corrode almost any metal it touches. Did mail order from an off road outfit for a Halon (might not be right spelling) extinguisher, It robs the fire of air and leaves no harmful residue. Mine is 3.5lbs and cost right at 160.00. The "small quickly extinguished" fire did 8,500 dollars damage to my '70 big block. B.T.W. I have Hagerty Ins. and they were solid gold from start to finish. Everyone I spoke to did all they could to put me at ease and get my buddy back on the road. The adjuster was well versed in C-3's. If someone rides with me, I put the extinguisher behind the seat bulkhead. Many might think my might 'storage' technique dangerous, but not me. Getting the car safely stopped, door and hood open and fighting the fire is a pants changing experience. It's not corny to suggest you "practice" the drill and pray it never happens.
Cautious on the Gulf Coast.
