Default 77 Original Color

I want to restore my 77 Vette to as close to original as possible. I think the original color is orange but I was wondering if there is a way to know for sure what the factory color was?

Thanks
Dave

The original paint code is on your trim tag along with interior color code and time built date. The tag is on the driver's door hinge post and visible when you open the door..

I was afraid of that. I thought that may be so I looked but cant read it. Ill try some clean up to read it. I feel strong its a orange car based on the inside doors and areas not usually painted aftermarket.
Thanks for the reply.

The trim tag on driver door frame should have Code 66 stamped into it.....that is the one year only Orange color for 1977

"Corvette Orange" is the actual name of Color Code 66 exterior color for 1977 Corvettes. The original formula for that color may or may not be available; but many auto paint suppliers have their "matching" paint formula for Code 66 paint (must specify the 1977 Corvette model year when ordering). GM re-used these number codes for DIFFERENT paint colors over several model years; so color code, car model & and model year must be specified to assure the CORRECT paint formula is selected.

Sherwin-Williams (AUTO paint supply stores) probably have a formula for that color. I'm sure that EVERY reputable paint/body shop has their preferred paint supplier and they can obtain a matching formula, as well.

Thanks for the reply.
I'm perplexed as to how the trim tag could be unreadable. The code is on the driver side door frame in raised letters that shouldn't be obscured even if it has been painted over. Perhaps it is missing, and you are looking at the sticker on the back of the door instead? Please post a photo!

I have not pursued this (I was able to find my tank sticker, and both of my cars have their trim tags), but a copy of your car's original invoice MAY be available from the GM Media Archive, starting in 1977.

I hope this helps!

Yes, I was obviously looking at the wrong tag. The one I saw was like a sticker and smooth. I'll look again. I have so many jobs going on it at the same time I just glanced . Thanks
