1969 corvette. Did the interior rear view mirror come with a black rubber piece around the mirror or was it just in grey? Seems very out of place with black interior?
My first on (original?) was the polished stainless back with sort of a grey/white rubber, I always thought it might have been silver that wore/faded off a long time ago

I've got one here that came off a '71 that has a gray frame. While I'm here, pay shipping and it's yours; mine was similar to this and I removed the mirror and sent it and got it resilvered.
You could get any color you wanted as long it was stainless steel with light gray outer trim. You could buy a 1972 and later mirror which would be black.

IIRC, technically, that would be a LATE 1972 and later for the black mirror. A federal safety mandate required the change from the very bright (and glaring in certain sunny conditions to oncoming cars) stainless-backed mirror to all black, starting Jan 1, 1972. My August '71 built '72 car correctly has the stainless mirror. I believe this change was timed along with the seat belt warning interlock system, which also went into effect on Jan 1, 1972.

Thanks everyone. I just found it odd looking and was wondering they came in black rubber trim. I can always change it later if it bugs me to something black.
I'm wondering if you could put the black trim onto the stainless back.... I think I still have both of mine but don't remember if the black was the wider one or not... where did I put that box...
