Just bought my first Corvette last week and after giving her a nice wash I noticed a few leaks which I expected in a fifty year old car. My main concern was when disassembling the doors I noticed the interior panels were damp and flaking a bit. I suspect this is due to the felt seal which is normally present on the outside of the door, cushioning the window as it slides, is dry and no longer serving a purpose. I looked on eBay and Corvette mods for replacements but they were a little pricey for some thin rubber. Upon further sifting through eBay I found some universal V shaped weatherstripping which is supposed to be able to replace seals such as those. Has anyone had any experience using such a replacement? Is there a better shape weatherstripping to use? Or some other fix for this leak?
Buy the good quality ones , the cheap version just don't fit well . Have a look at your glass cushions ,(2 per door ) they should be soft and "fluffy" !! not have a hard flat face on them .
Those outer seals have nothing to do with your interior door panels getting wet. Your initial premise is faulty. If the water goes into your door outside the window, it stays in the door and drips out at the bottom, to the outside of the car. Everything that others have said about the outer sweep on the door is correct, though. Get good ones if you are going to buy.
