Default Drive Shaft Information

I`m trying to get stuff together to swap my th400 in my 74 to a 200 4R. I want to have everything ready to put back in when I pull the th400. I need to have my drive shaft shortened so I thought I would just pick up an extra one and have it ready. Will one work out of a 84 Corvette work ?

I don't think the length of a 700-R4 is the same length as the 200-4R. And the '84 is a C4, so its driveshaft length may be different than that of a C3...even if it did have the same engine & transmission.
I would guess "No", unless it was just a lucky coincidence.

Would a D. shaft from a TH 350 with a SBC work without having to shorten it in a 2004R and my SBC

That’s what I used. Changed out Th350 for 200-4R in my 79 and used same driveshaft.

The Th400 and Th2004r are virtually the same length. The same drive shaft will work, all you need to change is the slip yoke from the 32 spline Th400 to the 27 spline used on the Th350'

AFTER you've verified fit, suggest R&R both u joints w/ Dana-Spicer Life Solid Non-greaseable joints ... and have it balanced ...
... either Joplin Drive Shaft or Joplin Freightliner at Joplin MO can probably help you.

That is what I have been hearing. The th350 is a direct fit and the th400 has to be shortened . Thank you Now 1 more question, is a 82 C3 drive shaft the same as the earlier years C3.

it works great. Lower first gear and cruising at 70 mph is nice

I changed out TH400 for 200 4R and used same driveshaft it doesn't need shortening you just need to change the universal as mentioned.
The exhaust will likely need some modification to fit around the back of the 200 4R (at least mine did) and the exhaust hanger bracket won't fit.

As I stated earlier, if changing from a TH400 to a TH2004R, the drive shaft does not, I repeat DOES NOT need to be shortened! Only if you are changing to a 700R4 does it need to be shortened. I have done this mod on several vettes with TH350 as well as the TH400. No drive shaft mods are needed. The slip yoke is different on the 400, 32 spline, but the 200, 350 and 700 all use the same 27 spline. 78 and later TH350 vettes used the 1330 u-joint so that is the yoke to get, like the one I linked in ebay, these cannot be purchased new, only the 1310 yokes are still made.
