I bought a new 5-speed. I am trying to decide if I should sell my original 4-speed or keep it. It matches my cars VIN. I don't see myself using it again but I don't know what a good selling price is either. If it isn't worth much I figure I should just keep it. It isn't that big.

If you have a driver quality car and you do not have any intention of putting that 4-speed unit back in your car, just sell it for what you can get out of it. Buyers of 'driver' cars don't care about whether the transmission is original to the car...especially when it has a nice 5-speed already in it. And people seeking a museum-quality car with all original stuff in it will likely not be knocking at your door. If YOU want to keep it for 'posterity', fine. If not, you could get some decent buck$ for the 4-speed from folks needing a 'stock' replacement. The "Parts for Sale" section of this Forum would be a good place to make that offer.

Unless you're strapped ... now & immediate future not the time to sell old car parts ... relative values dropping ... next car owner may appreciate OE trans.

If the value is dropping, NOW is the time to sell. Or, does someone see the worth of 4-speeds going up in the future??

What is the value...$200-300? Shipping would kill any sales deal, may as well keep it.

Yeah, I was thinking the same. Maybe advertise it locally only. If it sells it sells. If not it can sit on a shelf in the garage.

Is it worth a few hundred to sort thru tirekickers, timewasters, potential thugs ... especially if strangers learn where your home is & what it looks like around there ... and when you might not be there?

if it's aluminum, local circle track & drag guys may be interested ... suggest keep it w/car for next owner ... next is a certainty

There's a lot of "interesting" characters on CL and the like that you will be inviting over to see all your goodies.....

I think it's also pretty cool for nostalgia sake to say that you have the original 4 speed and to include it with the sale of the car someday, but hey do whatever you want because you're going to anyways, LOL

i think the price on old good 4 speeds could drop. the orig ones all have trannies and the "nombers? we don need no steenking nombres!" crowd are all doing 5 speeds or more.
