Default wiper door alignment

I removed the hood, cowl grill, and wiper door during my rebuild and am now replacing them. The hood and grill line up like they should but the wiper door is too far forward. It needs to move rearward about a 1/2". What the heck happened?! My friend has a 70 and I measured his hood, grill and wiper door to the front of the hood. My hood and grill are the same distance but the wiper door is 1/2" forward. Also, the front edge of the door seems to dip below the fenders while the rear edge is flush. I believe the grill will keep it level once it closes so I'm not real concerned about that. I replaced one end on the mechanism that operates the door because it was broken and I also replaced the bushings on the door. Everything else is the same. Is there some sort of adjustment I can make? What did I do wrong?

To me it looks like the grill need to come back to close the gap at the hood. Are you sure the wiper door actuator is fully back into the canister. It appears tobe out of adjustment or the rod is pushed forward. Check the AIM it gives you the correct starting point adjustment.

You can adjust the linkage rod that is under the rubber boot on the rear of the wiper door actuator to gain full travel on the door.

In the pictures, the grill is sitting loose. I set it there to give you an idea where its located. However, the door is hitting on top of the grill and cannot close fully. Its like the door needs to be mounted more rearward, but it's attached to the arms and can't be adjusted. The actuator arm linkage adjustment won't help because the door won't go down any further because it's hitting the grill.

Can you adjust the grill forward to give you the clearance for the door? You might have to move the hood slightly forward also to gain the needed space to move the grill.

The grill needs to be fully mounted. When the door closes, it doesn't just go straight down. It comes back at an angle and just clears the back of that grill...when it is in proper position. Install the grill and try it again.
