Default The Nose Knows

Amazing how sometimes we wind up with extra parts that are either large and in the way; nasty and in the way; or just plain in the way. I wound up with two front extensions here and thought they were the same but upon further examination I learned that they are NOT the same. Have a look.

Face to face view. Left extension is 1973 & 1974 only. That would be the transition years.

Top down view. Top is 75-79. Bottom is 73-74.

Front view of the 1975 through 1979 front bumper extensions.

Now both have the vacuum canister up front as part of the brace; but the mounting surface was changed for the 1975 front end and it stayed exactly the same through the 1979 model year. In 1980 they changed the front extension again.

These are the kind of pieces that take up room but they only made so many of them and when they are gone, they are gone.
Someone wrecks the front of a 1973 through 1979 and I guess I have the part that would help them repair the car.
Until that happens I guess I am going to be storing these two large front extensions somewhere in my parts basement.

Thanks for looking, I thought you might like seeing the differences.

Best regards,

David Howard

73-4 they were still designing it. they made the piece in front of that air tank out of about 6 pieces bolted together. by 75 they had it figured out and it was essentially a 1 piece stamping with plastic honeycomb pushed into it. mine is bent and not going back. usually has to be trimmed to fit replacement glass bumper.
