Default 1971 LS5 Progress

I took delivery in October 2017. Been working on a body-off every since on a hobby basis. Numbers matching automatic, tilt wheel, no AC, power brakes and steering Nevada silver with red interior.

Ordered exhaust system last Friday. Had to replace 3/4 of the birdcage which naturally involved removal of the front clip, which I just finished totally restoring. Once rolling chassis is complete I will drop the clip back on and loosely fasten for its trip to the body shop for final shimming and paint.

Restoration of the doors will be my next area of the restoration that I will tackle.

Ready to replace birdcage.

Mating the two birdcage sections.

Lookee lookee what I found!

Removal of front clip.

More cancer!

Refurbished firewall reinstalled.

Delivery day 2017.

Ready to attach firewall. Had to manufacture a pop rivet gun to fasten pop rivets to top leading edge. Air driven pop rivet gun would not fit inside the wiper well.

In this photo I just finished installation of exhaust manifolds.

Chassis needing exhaust system, drive belts and fan.

Inspection marks will be added shortly.

Installed fuel tank last week. Need to order fuel line hoses.

Rear suspension.

Added inspection marks, exhaust, fuel tank hoses. I omitted tower type hose clamps, from my experience with my 1967 restoration I could not depend on them holding.

Added fan, fan clutch and belts.

Sat the air cleaner in place for now as a morale booster!

Moving towards setting the front and rear clips into position in order to try to install and align my doors. This should be fun!

Christmas is coming early this year which may slow down my progress for a few weeks, getting a new right hip.

I guess nothings made to last forever.

Wow! I love the attention to detail!

It's certainly a big job, but that's what it's all about.
