It's your headlight switch bypass. It will open/ close your headlight doors without using your switch. However, your lights won't come on...... Pull it...see if it works

No, that stopped in 72. The last year for the vacuum operated wiper door. 73 and later vettes have the longer Hood.

That is the "Mouthy Passenger Ejection Seat ****".

Should be a decal there that states:
Caution. Do Not Activate With T-Tops In Place.

If only. There'd be a surplus of driver-side glass T-Tops if that were the case.

FWIW: order a 77 owner's manual and read through it when it arrives.

My '78 has the same ****. Do you just pull straight down and does the engine need to be running? I didn't want to pull too hard and damage something.

Straight down, should be fairly easy to pull and the engine needs to be running (or the vacuum canister already charged and not leaking) since the headlights need the vacuum to go up/down. If you pull it with no vacuum nothing happens, no harm, no foul

It's purpose is for leaving headlamp buckets UP for changing out lamps or for leaving them UP in freezing/icy weather. The headlamps can freeze shut in such weather; best to leave them UP so you can still use them.

YES! That's what we did when these cars were year-around daily driver cars....
