Still chasing this electrical gremlin after my radio install. I have everything working with the exception of the key buzzer. I moved some wires under the dash and it briefly sounded, so theres a loose connection somewhere. Before I go removing the driver side dash again,
I'm trying to trace out the wiring. My (1972) schematic shows a "key warn buzzer" connector between the stop light switch and the harmonica connector. Does anyone know where this physically located? What type of connector am I looking for?
Any info is appreciated. Damn electrical stumps me every time!
Hi Brian, Harmonica shaped connector is attached to the steering column you can see it without removing anything.
Hi Ralph,
Thanks. I see the harmonica connector clipped to the steering column, but the wiring diagram shows another, smaller connector that I can't see under there.
Have you tried wiggling the key in the ignition lock. The drivers door has to be open with the key in the ignition for the buzzer to work
Yes sir. It came on briefly when I shifted some wires behind the dash. I'm thinking the issue is back there. I'm just trying to explore every option before dropping that ^$%# drivers side dash again.
If the buzzer is intermittent, it could be the infamous spring device buried deep down in the steering column. I dove down deep enough to replace my turn signal switch, but didn’t have the nerve to go any further. Figured I would mess up the ignition switch and then be in really deep Schitt.

Thanks Eliredandblack.
I hope that is not the case. That would be worse than getting at the buzzer connection behind the dash.
Can't argue that these old cars don't always provide you with something to do. That which is working fine today, may not be tomorrow, lol!
Ah the joy of owning these old cars!!!!! Your braver than me. Both cars key buzzers do not work and I am too scared to try and fix them for fear of doing more damage. It is on my list if I ever need to get behind the dash to do!!! Good luck Ike

Don't know if I'm braver lol! I too worry about screwing things up back there. It just gnaws at me when something doesn't work as it should. I did the same with the factory alarm system. I had to get it working even though I'll never use it.
Agreed I did the same with my alarm. I even had to drill out the hole for the lock that they had glassed over. But I figured I could not break too many things getting the alarm to run. Worse case it would just continue to not work.
The buzzer is different. That damn steering column and front dash Is a nightmare waiting to happen!! For now I’ll just remember to take my keys!😂
By the way. I’m sure you know but you should run the alarm every now and then to keep the mechanism from getting stuck.
Okay, so all set to tackle the "silent key buzzer" issue this morning. I removed the 7 screws from he driver side dash pad, and with the slightest pull on the pad to remove it, the buzzer came back on. It is now working as it should. I promptly replaced the screws and buttoned everything in place.
I guess my question is, does this make me a "bubba"?
Should I have investigated further to find the cause of the issue.
