The tides shift once again....
Thats John with my son about 5 years ago
Hey all....
I was the dumbass that bought the C-4 in 84 right off the showroom turntable. Seven wonderful months of polite phone calls and hand written letters (pre-internet) with lots of "X's and O's" as salutations, I received a refund.
Long live crossfire injection!! (at the bottom of a junk pile)
Many years later, I picked up a severely neglected C-3. Like a dumbass does, I performed a nut and bolt restoration. In the end, she was a beautiful representation of the best Chevy had to offer from 1976. It is only now that the car is beginning to approach the $'s I have invested.
In 1995, I traded the car to my father in law for his 3yr old Wellcraft Eclipse 233.
John loved the car! Mostly, it was a dream of his since he had departed the Army, but a young family with 5 mouths to feed....a mortgage payment.....a career....the dream always got moved to the bottom of the priority pile. I know he also loved the car because he loved me, as I did in return.
25 years of sunshine drives and weekly washing has the car in nearly identical condition as to when I traded him. A chip in the edge of the gas door, a spastic retractor in the drivers seat belt and a little bit of fading to the raised white letters on the tires. I have had to rebuild the callipers 4 times over that period, and replaced the carb just last summer, but everything else is as-new.
John passed the car back to me when he passed. It was the elephant in the room that no one wanted to discuss because everyone wanted the car. Once copies of the will were distributed, I got the glares and sneers but it was there in black and white. The best part? I can not sell it....ever. It goes to my son (now 13) after me.
So...see you on the boards.....I have a few upgrades in store!

Condolences on the passing of your father-in-law and congratulations on having the C3 back.
I am sure your father-in-law knew how much it meant to you, and it is great that it will now go on to your son (and his grandson).
Wellcraft - a very dynamically styled boat. Forty year old Eclipse still look in style today.
