Default Incorrect AC compressor decal?

Hi,

I believe that the AC compressor decal I have is incorrect, but just checking with others to confirm. I have a 1970 small block.
The decal was purchased several years ago, and from the part # it appears to be an Eckler's part, but it may have been purchased from a Canadian supplier (no longer in business)...
As far as I have read the AC compressor decal should be green at the bottom and not red as pictured below on the right... correct?

Also from what I have read, the decal on the left below goes on the evaporator housing, is that correct?

If anyone has pictures of the placement of each that would be appreciated.

Thanks as per usual Alan... I assume they gave me the incorrect label in a correct bag... the bag says it's for a 1970, but it should not be red then...
Do you know for what year this decal is for then?

That other label gets placed down on the side of the evaporator housing. There is a sheet in the AIM which shows where/how all labels are to be attached on the vehicle.

Hi 70,
The 5910747 red label seems to have been used for 1969 Camaro Chevelle Nova Impala Frigidaire Compressors. (At least that's what I can find at this point.)

I don't think the label for the evaporator/blower housing isn't shown in the AIM because that assembly came to the production line with the label in place.
Only stickers, decals, and labels that were installed on the line are shown in the assembly manual.

Regards,
Alan

The correct labels for AC compressors, seems to be open to some debate.

I can't swear that it's correct, but the company I buy my labels from, lists the smaller red label (5910747) for the 1970 big block compressor, and the larger green label (1131002) for 69-71 small blocks?

The evaporator box below is from a 75 Corvette, but I think the label placement on the 70 is the same.

Hi GB
I'm dealing with the same mystery....I've got a 1970 big block, and am a bit uncertain on the correct decal for the AC compressor. Did you confirm the red (5910747) is the correct one for the big block?

Hi Rmeredith,

After doing some research, I don't think that the 5910747 is correct for a big-block Corvette... it does appear to be correct for a 1970 big-block, but for Cadillac Deville, Eldorado, Fleetwood and a few other cars...

I do have a 1970 assembly manual (not sure if you have one, if so, you can look at pages K314-K315), but there are 2 separate part numbers for the A/C compressor based on the engine... a 350 engine, the compressor part number is 5910741, and for a 454 engine the compressor part number is 5910740. So the label 5910747 is incorrect for a 1970 Corvette regardless of the engine.

I also have a copy of the NCRS manual for 1970-1972, and as for the compressor, it states "The compressor is a Frigidaire axial style, model A-6 with a green and black foil label"... there is no mention of a red label or a different label based on the engine size. It simply says it's green and black.

I did a quick google search for 5910740, and it does show some green/black labels, but it also says it's for a 1974 BB... but Zip products says that 5910740 says it's for a 1960-1971 big block...

So I'll leave it up to you to decide, but I believe for a 1970 BB, it would be a green/black label... I say this because of the assembly manual part number for the compressor... the assembly manual says the part number for the compressor is 5910740... and i would expect that this number should be displayed on the label where it says "Model"...

Thanks,
ragtop70

Wish my camera worked better, But green & black are vette. Part # differs because in 69 the pulley changed size for the BB vs the SB. The BB used a smaller pulley the same as passenger cars where the SB used a 5 3/4" pulley. The BB foil # is 5910740. That # is for 69 to 71 BB. The SB used a 5910741 for 70 & 71 compressors. The last 3 numbers of the model # is inverted on the bottom of the foil. 740 inverted on BB and 741 inverted on SB. All green & black.

Rob,
Forgot to say that Paragon has pictures of the vette foils, and I believe the smaller BB pulley was 5 1/8"

Thanks...My car is mostly original but I do notice a lot of labels missing especially in the ac area because it was retrofitted. Any idea where the Harrison one goes (if it goes at all that is)?
