Default Cruise Control Addition

Hi Guys,
Just thought I’d share a little about a recent cruise control install. I apologize I did not document along the way, but as it is, probably no two people would do it the same way.
The car is a daily driver and as such I have continually tried to make it a little less uncomfortable to drive, particularly on long road trips which I enjoy. Overdrive automatic trans, intermittent wipers, Borgeson steering, projector LED headlights.... you get the idea. The cruise install was the last to be undertaken in that quest. After querying some of the guys on this forum and elsewhere, I chose a Rostra Global Cruise. A good portion of the time was spent in figuring out where the cruise module will go as it was much bigger than I anticipated and C3 engine compartments aren’t a bastion of open space to add components to.The mounting had to be away from engine heat... ha ha, but also away from water transgression and be close enough to run the cable to the carburetor while at the same time being able to fish almost a dozen wires into the passenger compartment. As the picture shows I chose mounting the module on the passenger inner fenderwell. A couple of bolts coming from the Inner wheelwell provided adequate fastening for the module’s bracket. The instructions had a lot to be desired for us in the remedial reading class, and Rostra’s tech guy wasn’t a lot of help. Asked him if I could shorten the cable to the carb and he said I couldn’t..... no explanation. Also when I asked him if I could source a constant 12 volt source other than the specified C3 brake switch, he also said no without an explanation. Thankfully the forum provided the reason for wiring directly to the brake circuit as if relates to brake malfunction and switching off cruise. Made total sense then. I was dreading the two connections required in the brake switch circuit as at 6 2” and 230, I’m not exactly nimble underneath the dash. Other than the brain power required, the brake connections were the most challenging. Plenty of bits provided for throttle linkage hook up, although again the instructions were not overly clear.
Could not decide on the controller; stalk as later C3s or dash style mount. Ultimately went with dash style mount on the console. Kind of an eyesore to me so ultimately might go with a stalk controller... we’ll see. Got

it buttoned up and took it out on the road for a test run. I was very intimidated by the trouble shooting instructions so I was very apprehensive about it working with so many variables. Lucky day! All functional! Had to play around with a couple of micro switches to get it fine tuned, but could not be happier with the overall performance.
Now to go reel in some asphalt!

Nice install, unfortunate that the tech line wasn't as helpful as they should/could have been (and I find it disappointing that I'm not all that surprised) I looked into one of the Rostra systems a couple of years back but never pulled the trigger, always seems there's something else farther up the list...

Keep us up to date on how it works for you
