Have been reading about Flowmaster and they seem to have a good product with many options for sound level. Delta series, Super 44 or 50, anyone have it and how do you like the sound overall. Also interested in Magnaflow but wondering about their mufflers that have insulation inside that gets moisture in it..My stock system is way to quiet and pretty rusty looking , going to replace the converter with a high flow style to keep it legal also. Appreciate any input, thanks!
I run Flowmasters on almost everything I own. Despite the name, they dont flow all that well, and if you're trying to wring out every last HP they're probably not the best choice. That said, I love the sound. To me a chambered muffler sounds the best. Chambered mufflers do drone at certain RPMs, which some people hate.
40 and 44s are 2 chambers, 50s and deltas are 3 chambers, 10s are single chambers. The less chambers, the louder.
On my T/A I'm at 10:1 compression with a healthy camshaft, long tubes into a 2.5" exhaust with 40s, and it's loud. I feel a little bad starting it early in the morning, and having a high stall converter doesn't help, but I love it.
Tranz Zam, Nice cars! I had a 70 1/2 Ram Air III, white with blue interior....should not have sold that one! Heard good things about Magnaflow but they don't seem loud enough, especially since I will be using a cat converter...
Flowmaster makes a muffler for nearly every application you might have. They ALWAYS sound deep, mean, and awesome... but they dont actually flow. They will probably make power over a stock muffler ov the same size, and sizing up to 2 1/2" system with them is something you will feel, but held against other modern muffler designs, they just dont measure up. All the different brand make loud and quiet mufflers.
Magnaflow has some very well-flowing models. I'm not terribly partial to the sound, but others love them. Joe Sherman used to love these (might still?)
Borla flow well too, and sound good. The older models sound far better, but they quit making those a while back.
Spintech can make a muffler for ANYTHING... any size, shape, angle... an they sound amazing i think. They flow very well. This is what i use.
There are others that flow well... but dont just trust anyone's word, do some research. There must be a hundred different dyno comparo's across all the car magazines (or Youtube now) that line up all the different brands and shoot them out.
going to order the aluminized y pipe and rear pipe and high flow converter to stay stock...with my motor at 190hp don't think it will wake the neighbors in the morning..lol.. Thinking the delta 40 series should be good for a bit more bark and still be ok going down the road. A friend has Magnaflow and he likes them but to me they are not loud enough. He just put them on this year so they will most likely get louder as the insides wear out?

Agree with all your points. Also love the sound of Flowmaster. OP - The drone is a real thing but you learn to live with it or drive around around it by speeding up just a few RPM's. At idle, they are hard to beat. Sound is a nice deep rumble.
What about Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers, was just at my Autozone and my guy told me they sell lots of them and are a good value. Just like Magnaflow though, with the glass packing stuff that will eventually blow out. Time to move on with a choice, will give Delta 40s a shot and if they don't work will try something else. Thanks to all for the input as always!

I ran turbo mufflers on a car I recently sold. That was a 11.5:1 455. They were quieter than Flows, that's for sure, but the car still sounded good and was by no means quiet.
I ran Delta 40s for years on a LS swapped Camaro, and they sounded amazing. The Delta mufflers sound a little deeper than the standard 40s, which I love.
Tranz Zam,
Love that pair in the driveway. I have always loved the early T/A's over the early Camaro's Burt Reynolds put the T/A on the map as the cool car to have in the 80's.
I'm glad Pontiac held on to the 455 super when other GM marques were running 305's. By 1980 the corvette was effectively neutered.

On my 11.5/1 385, flowmaster super 40s. No drone. I have an H-pipe. 3” pipe from collectors back to the last cross member-approx. 40”. Reduces to 2-1/2”. I like the sound; deep.

Thanks!
I'm a huge Pontiac guy, but I like everything, which is how I ended up here. lol
