I have a 72 coupe that I’m considering installing custom wheels. The ones I’m looking at have a 4.5 backspacing. Aren’t the stock wheels 3.5 ?
The vendor says his 4.5 wheels will fit with no issues. Can someone verify if he’s correct?
I would like to be sure before I commit to purchase.
Thanks

If you are going to use an 8 inch width wheel you will want a 4" backspace. Much more than that and you may have to move your parking brake cable bracket to the top of the t/a. Mine is 4.1" with no issues. 4.5" might be really tight.
I have a pair of 15x8 Enkeis with 4.5" backspace (zero offset). They do not fit properly. I could fix it with spacers, but I installed C3 YJ8 wheels instead (stock, 15x8, 4" backspace).
The backspace is measured from the full lip-to-lip width of the wheel. For an 8" wide wheel, lip to lip is actually 9". The stock backspacing is 4" when measured in this manner (1/2" negative offset).
