Default What is she worth?

I'll start with what I know, which is very little.
I'm happy to take specific pics that you request but I'm just trying to find out this old girl is worth.

1971 BB Convertible. Currently Mulsanne Blue, but the trim tag says she should be Bridgehampton Blue.
Engine is a 454 out of a 1974 Chevy police cruiser. No clue on the transmission lineage.
Drives okay. Wiper door opens but wipers don't work. Headlights work but there's a short in the high beam button. If I bump it with my foot while shifting at night the lights flicker off.
Took it to a Vette specialist and this is what they had to say about it.

And here's some pics I took. Like I said, you want to see something specific just ask. Although in the engine bay or under the car you're gonna half to point me in the right direction.
That's as far up as the windows go. So I can't drive her in any weather currently. Trying to get her to the point it can be a daily driver for me. If it's not feasible I just can't keep her.

The pic you show of the passenger side upper windshield I’m not sure about.

It almost looks like it’s separating? Is that rust?

When I put the top down this evening or tomorrow I'll snap some better pics of that area for you.

Based on the little information given anywhere from 11k to 23k.

Do you own this car? I'd recommend unloading it asap. Based on the pics, there are a lot more problems unrevealed. Sorry for being blunt, but it's a turd.

There are red flags here that may point to significant issues. The windshield frame pics point to potential significant birdcage rust, which is the killer with these cars. Too many good non-original cars out there to waste time and money on a bad one.

If the birdcage is rusted, or showing rust, I would investigate the rust, if it's rusting, pass on to ASAP.

Theres other out there, and when dealing with corvettes, always check birdcage.

IMHO,

I like this Corvette, and agree with above, need to check for rust. Particularly under the windshield frame. It is possible all of that crooked windshield frame trim was put back on after replacing the windshield glass by someone unfamiliar with C3's.

Next I am particularly struck by how much a business would charge you to do this work. You can do all of this yourself, free labor, take you much longer (ha!) but learn and have fun in the process. This forum provides how to info. If I had to pay somebody to do this C3 work, I would be even more major upside down than usually, LOL's!

And finally the non original engine is a big hit, like it or not, that is the current market, unless maybe you put in a LS1 or super crate engine (so even more money invested).

So, having sold a 68 with a non original engine/4sp not long ago for 18 that I had spent mucho money and mucho time on, I would say this one, assuming no bad rust and decent driver paint, would go for 16 to 18.

Also suggest you look at a dozen Corvettes and take some road trips and not be in a hurry to buy before you part with your hard earned "toad pelts". Someone said it is the Corvettes that you do not buy that makes you look smart, but I would not know!

Hope this helps and half the fun is looking!

This car?
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-about-hp.html

Hopefully you can unload it for what you paid for it.

That estimate is nuts. $840- in labor to replace a diff cover gasket? You can buy two rear composite springs and replace them yourself for less than that, and you'll have to remove the spring to get to the gasket anyway. Teach yourself how to do the items on that list and you'll be way ahead with the next car.

If you currently own this Corvette, I do not think it is going to be a dependable daily driver. If you decide to keep it, I suggest you do the fix up work yourself and consider it a fun hobby.

Did you buy it through eBay? Don't wait, don't dump money into it, and don't try to flip it for a profit. Now that you've inspected the car and proven that it was not as advertised, send it back and get your money back.

If it is too late for that, learn how to fix it, drive it, and enjoy it! There are certainly worse C3s on the road.

Sad to say, but if you dump 10 grand into the mechanic`s list, you`ll STILL have twice that in repairs left to do. The convertible top is the LEAST of the concerns. Windshield frame is very worrysome. None of the trim lines up, looks like serious rust issues behind it. Crack at fender well. Interior door jamb trim separated. Top rear edge of door. Right side dash has been cut where it meets console. The list goes on & on.

Welcome to the "Corvette Tax" which represents "raise the price, its a Corvette". No need to spend that kind of money feeding this company's Christmas fund. Stupid high pricing. If you cannot do the work yourself then you may well want to just sell off the car because having others do the work will cost you a lot of money. Don't ask me how I know, been there, done that. Lots of good Corvette guys in Florida so start asking around for some guidance and maybe some assistance, no need to throw your money away like that. My two cents.

PS: I wonder about that frame condition given the other things I am seeing that look like you have internal rust issues.
Good luck with your decisions.

So the people I bought it from did not just embellish (as I'm sure most do who are trying to sell a car), but they flat out lied about pretty much every aspect of this car.
They own a business but I of course signed a document stating I was buying the car AS IS, so I assume I have no recourse.
I'm going to reach out to them and see if they offer me any relief, but if not I will start a new thread that lists everything they told me about the car that ended up being false. I'll list their names and contact info to make sure nobody else gets ripped off by them. And I'll post it everywhere I can.

I feel like I'm a pretty honest person and I think I tend to suffer for it as I expect everyone else to be the same...

If you decide to report the details of this transaction, you certainly have a right to do so, but as far as the forum is concerned, the one and only place to start and maintain that thread would be in the Transactions Feedback section. Place a factual thread there and not in other places on the site in addition.

Of course you can post wherever you want outside the site.
