Default T/T Column worth $650?

I have the opportunity to get a tilt telescoping column for my 69. It is $650 + shipping which I'm guessing will be at least $100.
the column is supposed to be tight but does need a turn signal switch it comes with steering wheel.

is it worth the $700+ I will spend on it or should I shop for cheaper?

I'm a big guy and need the extra space. The standard column I can barely get in the car and it is dangerous if I was in a front collision.

thanks
Wade

Only you can decide if it's worth the price, but I love my Flaming River Tilt column I installed in my '68.

Corey,
Do they sale specific units for each application? Does it fit with out modification? What about the harness? I had thought about an FR but not confident in my modification skills.

That is up to you to decide. I almost bought a telescopic column for my 66. It was just under $2K. I passed. I would check with Steering Columns Galore in NY. A number of years ago I got a tilt column for my 70 SS Chevelle for under $350 with an exchange core. It is worth a call to them. Good luck. Jerry

They make a universal and a Corvette specific column. Its was very straight from what I remember, although I purchased one without the key ignition as I have a '68. I purchased the paintable version to match my interior, you can barley tell it's not factory when painted.

This is the one you'll need if you want to paintable mill finish. https://www.flamingriver.com/fr30005...le-mill-finish

they are not collapsible like OEM columns. the great thing about GM designed parts is you know it will fit and function like it should. and if you ever need anything for it you know you can get parts for it. and GM tilt columns form 69-97 share a lot of interchangeable parts

You fixed a standard column with a tilt hub????

mine is a manual steering car. I think a smaller steering wheel would make it hard to drive wouldnt it???

Another thought is that although the Flaming River and Ididit columns both have tilt, only the stock GM column offers both tilt AND telescoping features. My $0.02, worth paying more to get the stock column.

Tell me more. A tilt hub that doesn't require replacing the column? For $150? I'm all ears.

If it's in good shape that's a good price especially with steering wheel.

Richard454, is that a ball type wheel adapter?
Does it push the wheel further towards your belly ?
Any other mods to the column?

I bought one for my ‘69 during the restoration. It was about $600 without the steering wheel. I think the price quoted is appropriate.

I felt it was worth every dime. I wanted the car to look right with no obvious modifications.

I wish I could get tilt/tele with no key. I have a few hot rods I'd like to use them in.
