Default Corner piece

What kind of sealant would you use to keep this piece in place? It is loose and it touches the wiper door assembly which has cause the paint to start to crack. Were these pieces always just stuck in place or was there a screw or clip holding these on originally. I want to pop it off and put it back on the right way. This is on a 1971 convertible. Thanks

I have the same problem. I saw there were clips but they don't stay in place. Please help.

The screw shown in 71Green454's photo is not what I have in my '71 coupe. It is a very small flat head screw with no washer under it.

I've searched thru my AIM but couldn't locate the proper drawing which would detail that assembly.

There should be a little "hole" in the body and a little "bump" on the clip so that it latches onto the fiberglass. On one side of mine the paint buildup filled in the "hole" so it tends to slide off. The other side stays attached quite well. I can try to take a pic if someone needs one.
Mine also has screw holding it on the end near the wiper door.

I borrowed that photo from Alan 71, both screws on my '71 convertible look like his. They are chrome with a built in washer.
I've never removed them in the 45 years I've owned the car.

I found the AIM page with this drawing. It is UPC 1, F8 and it defines that screw as GM #3893979. The best description I could find was from a person who had been an engineer on the Chevelle program. He specifies that part as: "3893979 is a #8 x 3/8" black phillips trim screw with a special button head which is flat on the under side."

My recollection is that it was a black [phosphate coated] Phillips head screw without a washer. I would never question info from Alan71, But my opinion is that the chrome screw is not correct.

Well ultimately I had to use and adhesive to help it stay put. The clips would not hold it still. Ike

Ditto here too, I used just a dot of emblem glue. Not too much in case I ever had to get it off.

Mine wouldn`t stay put either.... until I figured out the tiny holes in the fiberglass, and the little nibs on the clip. Now that that`s straightened out, they sit still. I like the emblem adhesive idea though.... "just in case".
