Default 1976 Air conditioning

Is the connection on the compressor itself the high pressure side?

it's a compressor..one side sucks the other blows..(so there are 2)
A pic might help and maybe can point you in the right direction. Or more details as to why you are looking?
high side will feed the front condenser

rayluka, two different A/C compressors were used in 1976.

The early 1976 (and prior years) compressors were of the A-6 axial design as indicated by interpon.

The late 1976 (and subsequent years) compressors were of the the R-4 radial design. The radial style compressor is shorter and wider than the axial style.

rayluka please post pics of your compressor so we can help you better with your question. Also a pic of the foil tag on the compressor will help as well.

Compressor "OUT" is the high side; compressor "IN" is the low side. (The line from the compressor to the condenser [on radiator] is the high side.)

Need to charge system. Will be pulling motor soon. Need to add r-12 back after completion.

Guess I should have posted one response. Anyway, its an early model. My question is, is the black valve on the aluminum piece on the back hi or low pressure? I will have it properly evacuated before removal. Then I can pull a vacuum and charge it after motor is in. There is another Schrader valve in a very hard to reach area that concerns me. I may have to make some trimming mod to get to it. Dont know why there is no clearance. How could they service it properly. Thats an issue for another day.
