Orange is the best to spot leaks and potential problems early. WHile one of the other may be original, and racing motor should be done in a light color to aid in spotting fresh oil!

HI Guys
Late to the party
Not a big fan of black engines the blue is a good color but I've always painted my big blocks orange
I'm a Case and Ingersoll tractor guys I like orange paint
I have a set of rectangular port iron heads for my black on black 79 Corvette there going to stand out quite a bit either color
Now I'm on the fence about using blue or orange
Those yeller headers shows how tight the fit is in a C3 engine compartment, what brand headers are those
I've had good luck with Headman Headers probably 4 or 5 sets in my lifetime
From my first Camaro with the 396 to my 74 short box Super Cheyenne with the 454
BIGMAN 79
My 79 is black with red interior. when I bought the car, someone had repainted the original engine black. Knowing it was supposed to be corporate blue didn't matter to me. I painted it Chevy orange, as all old school (as in not LS) engines should be painted IMO.
I vote CHEVY ORANGE!
My BluePrint Engines crate 357 long block came painted black, however, if given the option, I would have ordered it in Chevy Orange.
Fortunately, it is still in the crate awaiting more resto work on the car prior to installing.
I don’t mean to hijack this post, but anyone here see any reason why I couldn’t turn the engine upside down on an engine stand to repaint it prior to installing it? It was shipped with the oil drained from the engine, but obviously it had been dynoed before they crated it up to ship to me.
Maybe I’m overthinking this….🤷🏼♂️
Either way, to the OP, I wish you the best of luck on your build!

lift it up with a hoist or put it on an engine stand, and you can easily paint it without turning it over.
you are over thinking it!
But powder coat is a plastic, not an epoxy.
- With powder coat, the plastic is sprayed on (electrostatic) and then heated until it melts.
- Epoxy is a two part resin and hardener that dries through a chemical reaction.
