finally got somewhere with the Vette. been too busy with work and life... she will finally be painted on the easter long weekend.
ended up fully rebuilding the SBC350. 30thou over KB pistons, huge valves, huge cam, JP timing gear set, edelbrock manifold, new MSD ignition setup, new holley 750 brawler vac sec carby
rebuilt the th350 trans with all the good gear, 3800 rpm stall
wheels are here ready to go...just waiting for the paint booth time now and slap it all back together
Ton of Bloody work doing a proper repaint. Best of luck to you. If your ever up in Queensland. Looks like there's a fair few of us up here you need to meet and have a cold one with!
The brown paint on the engine looks great with those valve covers.
What color are you painting the body?
it is actually a cherry color on the engine, just not in great lighting... the car will be painted in Harley davidson black cherry pearl... as shown in pic below

This has always been one of my favorite colors.
Harley does have some beautiful paint colors on their bikes.
hey all. C3 went on the back burner for a while with work and life getting in the way for a while. finally back on track and she is finally sporting her Harley Davidson black cherry paint. engine will be going back in this weekend or next depending on when i get back home as i am working away at the moment. preview pic below, sttraight off the gun, needs to be blocked and polished but she is looking good (well in my opinion anyway haha)
slow going lately with work and life just getting in the way of projects and fun lol... but hey, slow progress is still progress. may have miscalculated the height here, was aiming for half the air cleaner out of the bonnet... will probably be half the carby and full cleaner out of the bonnet haha... sure i could change the spacer... but im not
Nahhh! Looks great! Let me go out to the garage and take a couple photos of my 77 so you can compare. Of course I'm in Queensland where things fit differently.
OK , so I tried to get some photos of height of air filter, etc.
I tried to get down low on the right to get this photo. From the driver's side you can clearly see the base of the air filter sits on top of the ignition shielding over the distributor. And yet, the hood closes! And yes. If I had a dollar for every winger on here whining about, what will fit under my stock hood! YA WANNA Go FAST! Or ya want a stock hood? Bloody whiners!
Keep in mind. This is not a great option. As C3 Corvettes have the engine to one side, not central. So it's gonna look terrible!
But if your good with that. Have fun!
(Me, I want it to look nice).
Besides the offset issue, if you cut a 14”-15” hole in the hood, you’ll need to reinforce it underneath, otherwise it will droop, sag and likely crack.
It’s your car, but I would ditch the spacer and either modify your stock hood or buy an aftermarket tall L88 hood.
I had to remove my 1” carb spacer to get everything under a tall L88 hood on my 73.
