I'm not sure what's on there now but they are 12" long ovals, 9" wide x 4" high, 2-1/4" in-out. They used to rattle but on an extended run apparently whatever was inside let loose and the exhaust got a lot louder. I have it narrowed down to Walker WALKER Premium Quiet-Flow 22160, 22161, or Dynomax Ultra Flo Welded Mufflers 17222.
This is for an 81, all stock 350 small block. Original headers, I removed the cat and installed a dual exhaust with an X pipe. The car is a cruiser and I want it to be quiet.
You bought the "kit", which includes the entrance and exit pipes and hangers. Mine are bare, since my muffler guy will reuse my existing pipes or make new ones.
Good choice. i have had the Dynomax Super Turbo's on my 71 454 for over 20 years. they sound great with no drone. they are noticeably louder than standard mufflers but not obnoxiously loud. they have the deep mellow throaty sound to them.

Wish I could say the same. I've had the Dynomax Super Turbo's on my '73 small block since I bought it. Mine are way too loud and drone excessively. Same results with two different engines. Looking to change them out in the next few weeks. Most people with these mufflers seem to have the same experience as you. I wasn't so lucky.

The drone may depend on the rear end ratio. It would be interesting to compare engine size and rear end ratio - assume no overdrive.
My 85 drones on the highway in 6th gear up to 70mph, at 60 in 5 the gear there is no drone, but the RPM's are up there, 3:73 rear.
6th gear is a .6 overdrive and when the RPM drops the drone starts.
I think it is just less flow in the exhaust, so less back pressure... just a guess.
Hush matt in the tire carrier helped on the 85.

When i first started using the superturbo's the car had the stock 3.36 rear gears. about 11 years ago i put in a set of 3.70's. 2 years ago i put in a Vortecpro 496 and with all these configurations i have not had any drone. this year one of the projects is to put a 3" exhaust on the car and i'm thinking of going with Dynomax Ultraflo's. will have to see how they sound. hopefully no drone.
