Default 78 interior

Greetings,

when it comes to original interiors for the pace car edition, I’m a smooth-brained ape.

I would like to return the interior to its original glory. However, I can’t tell if this is the original carpet colors or if someone redid it since coming off the line.

and yes, that Sony Xplode will be the first thing going.

can anyone confirm if the interior carpet is correct? Thank you!!!

Looks good to me, do you make house calls? I have a 78 that could use help.

We would both be stumbling through together. I have 0.0 mechanical experience with vehicles; just getting started on this adventure.

The carpeting is silver, I believe. Decades of sun-fade tend to alter the hue of most auto carpets.

Some of the vinyl pieces look like they had mold on them that was cleaned off and spots left behind. Both the passenger-side armrest and the underdash panel under the steering column. Hard to say about the carpet but as others notes, probably aging has affected its coloration but the floor matts look funny. Factory radio was replaced and remove the steering wheel cover to see what the original leather looks like.

you would be correct; it was my father in laws, and has been ‘pole barn garaged’ for the last 15 years. He just gave it to me, and the stains you mentioned were from his attempts to clean it. Any advice as to how I can properly clean them?

I just received the AIM, and other service manuals.

The Service Manual for 1978 combines 5 chevy models in one book. Makes finding the parts specific to corvette tedious at times. The 1979 Shop manual is specific for corvette only, and includes the electrical trouble shooting guide at the end. 78 and 79 are almost identical.

$29.99 on eBay

Not knowing how yours were cleaned before, CorvetteBen on YouTube (he's here on the forum too but I forget his username here), uses Dow Scrubbing Bubbles foam bathroom cleaner and soft to medium stiff brushes. Several applications are sometimes required.

thank you! I’ll watch his videos, and test in a nondescript location. You guys are the reason I joined this forum; I’m clueless as to where to start.
