Default Door Sill

So the passenger side door sill on my 75 convertible is on backwards. It is held on by 4 screws into the frame. When I buy a new door sill how to I find out where to drill the holes (through the door sill to match the holes in the frame) for the screws? Or are they predrilled and should like up with frame holes?

The holes are already in the sill plate, iirc. But if they are not you can just match the other sides. iirc you can drill anywhere in the sill and not hit anything. also the screws do not go into the "frame" they only go through the sill..

Transfer the location of the screw holes on your new plate to the sill. Then drill and install 10-24 rivnuts in the sill.

I believe the sills are symmetrical as far as hole location. That is, the holes are equidistant from the ends, the sill plate will fit on either way. I know there's a correct way and an incorrect way but the sill will fit either way, you shouldn't have to drill holes.

Put the sill plate down where it should be. Mark thru the holes in sill plate with an awl, etc. Lift plate and drill for new screws.

P.S. The screws for that plate are somewhat unique. They are a #10 sheet metal screw with head size of a #8 screw. I think they wanted the strength of the #10 but couldn't c-sink the sill sheet metal enough for the #10 head. All supposition on my part, but still an issue when you install them.

Some folks choose to drill 1/4" holes where needed, then insert plastic wall anchors in the holes. Keeps from wearing out the holes. (But you might need to replace anchors after several removals...)
