Default Bubble Back '70-'72?

I was thinking about what I'm going to do with my '79. I bought it cheap and it has a salvage title so I figure I can do pretty much any kind of mods to it and not feel bad about it. I live a mile up a dirt road and there are a ton of other dirt roads in my area. I sold a Porsche 911 a couple years ago and the "Safari" thing is getting popular with those but mine was a convertible and they just don't look right for that type of car. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had done up a C3 in that style so did a search on it and found this photo.

At first I was thinking someone had put a metal bumper on a newer car then I realized that it was a '70 - '72 that was converted to a bubble back glass. I had never seen that before and don't remember any kits available back in the day for this conversion. I think it looks pretty good. Anyone ever seen this done before?

I'm also digging the rally style build and might go that direction on my car. I think it would be fun to go slogging around on the dirt roads, getting it sideways and not caring about scratching the paint or getting it dirty. Plus, I have a nice C5 for having fun on pavement.

Love seeing people actually using their cars . Notice how the first one has the window also mounted in a removable hatch. Probably did this for more room for the roll cage. I know putting a 4 pt roll bar in my 76 was a PITA, and I've considered doing something with the rear window multiple times over the years to give some extra room.

I always wondered what that would look like thinking it would probably be cool but now looking at it it just doesn't fit the rear end of a chrome bumper car.

I haven't seen any updates in a while, but @Priya was working on converting her 79 to a shark-gill, chrome bumper, bubble glass car (basically all the best features of the C3).

I've seen that conversion before. I have a picture of a black one somewhere. Now that I really like. I wonder what it would look like without the split window like the 64-67's

I just got it back in the garage on Saturday. I've got a lot of work to do on the house before I get back at it, so it could be June again before I get back at it.

Here's my very poor attempt at photoshopping.

Found my picture that I downloaded years ago. If I ever won the lottery I'd have one in my garage.

The focus is NOT the white thing, but the only pic I could find of my truck (that wasn't on my phone). Supercharged, fiberglass fenders, mid travel susp. front and rear, on 35's, onboard air, lock rear end, 2 ECUs, etc. My hope is to cage it internally eventually and do the baja 500 or 1000. Just to survive though, not to compete. (Those are not the offroad wheels and tires, those are for DD'ing)
