Default 69 window storage tray

Hello Team, I picked up this window storage tray at a swap meet. I’m having trouble with the fit. It’s going into an early build 69. It seems to be too long front to back. Even with the front latch adjusted all the way forward, it’s still too long by a lot. (Please ignore the wires) thank you!

68 was a longer tray than the 69
68 has a metal strip that is either unpainted or painted gloss black. 69 had the strip highly polished.

Spring loaded hinges were 68 or early 69 only ?

Just wondering as I have one here that fit my late 69.

This was an earlier post about the same subject.

The assembly manual shows a change in the tray about Feb 1969.
I don't know what the change was, but it may have been the front reinforcement bar. In 1968, the reinforcement bar was located on the bottom portion of the tray. The final '69 tray had the reinforcement bar located on the top of the tray. I suspect the shape and configuration of the bar also changed.
In 1968, part number was 3938099
Early 1969 was 3954528
Later 1969 was 3972537

If you have the fiberboard tray, it will fit your early '69 coupe.

The later '70's plastic trays will fit width wise, but you have to make provisions for the length, as they are 4-6" (approx) shorter than the fiberboard. However, the plastic will not sag or bend as the fiberboard tends to do, especially when wet.
