Can someone please tell me what the middle switch function is... does it just move the seat forward & back or does it also control up & down. I am talking about the little joy stick shaped switch on my 1981. Thanks for any help.
It could be the switch, a wire/connector on that circuit, or a motor. The switch is the most likely cause, but don't ignore the other possibilities.
7T1vette,
Could please tell me what the two other levers do.I have not used them is so long, plus being 76 years old I forgot what function they are used for. Thanks again.
front switch tilts the seat cushion, rear switch tilts the seat back.
7T1vette,
Thanks again. I am now thinking I have a short in the motor. Replaced all switches and no matter what switch I move the seat goes up then down and then goes forward and then back. Soon as it stops raining here I am going to remove the seat and check out the motor. Thank you very much for your help.
Front switch raises or lowers the front of the seat bottom, back switch raises or lowers the back of the seat bottom and the middle toggle switch moves the entire seat forward or back plus raises or lowers the entire seat.
You are on the right track in needing to test the motor. There are actually three motors under the seat, all made as one unit. One drives the front of the seat raise/lower, one drives the rear of the seat raise/lower and the other drives the forward/back movement. The center switch can drive all three motors depending on if you are going forward/back or raising/lowering the entire seat.

7T1vette & Mattoon Vette,
Thank you both for the help. I removed the whole seat and found the connection from the power source (plastic plug) was all corroded and split. Replaced plug and now everything works like it should. So, thank you very much.
